Hi, I'm new around here and looking for some advice. We want to stockpile a few hundred tons of seasoned firewood and are having trouble getting it dry so we're looking at using underfloor heating to dry it from a biomass boiler.

The floors we're looking at are grain floors and I wondered if anyone had any advice on types, cost or just another idea completely?

Edit: We're looking at doing the same with woodchip.

Border Esk Fencing, Longtown, Cumbria who also sell firewood as well as fencing products have been drying firewood using this method for a some years (bordereskfirewoodcumbria.co.uk.). Have bought in firewood from them when have been low on stock and would say that moisture content can be <20% sometime and sometimes >20%. The boiler the floor is heated with is located in a boiler room situated next to the drying floor and run on waste from the fencing side of the business. Logs in dummy bags (90 x 90 x90 cm) are placed on the drying floor and left for a few days.

Weird seeing how long ago this was, we've expanded a lot in the last 8 years.

I still think drying floors would work and I've seen them used successfully for chip but in the end we went with potato boxes in a heated shed because it means we have more flexibility with different sizes and minimal handling.

Likewise, I looked at this some years ago but drew no conclusions.

we have the biomass, we have the grain store but how do we dry logs?

I have someone local interested in expanding their drying potential to satisfy demand.

I am keen to learn what fans and heat output are needed From a few hook bins for example.

what uplift in value is say 20m3 of logs worth from MC 50 ish to 20-25ish
