hey guys,

 

dont know if this is in the right place steve,

 

been looking a bit more into 4x4s and i think just now while my machanical knowlegde is heehaw im going to leave land rovers just now plus other reasons but have been looking into getting a Diahatsu Fourtrack and seen a van on autotrader and ran a quote for insurance which was below a grand then ran a quote for van insurance which was even cheaper.

 

anyway the point to this post is to ask if insuring it as a van would make a difference to anything? or would i be safer insuring it on a car policy?

Insure it as a commercial policy - will cover all your tools and kit.

 

You say your quote came back at under a grand.... I should bloody hope so!!

i get robbed left right and centre with insurance due to me only driving for nearly 2 years and being nearly 21.

Know the feeling - they are pretty harsh on young drivers.

 

Defrfinatley go for a commercial policy, I found it much cheaper.

 

 

Mine is 2 yrs no claims and a pass plus test and comes in at £530 fully comp for Mitsubishi L200 2.5TD

does commerical insurance have any restrictions?

They have little clauses and criteria just like any other insurance company mate, any commercial policy will have some restrictions - but tell me about an insurance policy that dosent have some kind of restrictions.

I remember I had a problem trying to transfer no claims discount from a commercial policy to a private policy or visa-versa (I can't remember which way round to be honest) One way the insurance company would accept, the other they wouldn't. Best to check if you think you may swap at a later date.

I had the same probs of transferring no-claims discount from domestic to commercial policies. I wouldn't back down on it as I had 4 years of no claims which made a big difference to the premium. In the end they accepted it but it wasn't easy.

i can insure a v8 defender for 430 quid fully comp 3 yrs no claims pass plus and the age of 23 lol
