What type of business are you?

Have just renewed my van insurance this week.

Is it only me, or does anyone else get vaguely frustrated when entering personal details about themselves, that they are able to enter an Occupation Type of tree feller or tree surgeon or arborist (on some), but when it comes to selecting a corresponding Business Type there is no similar option to select tree surgery or arboriculture.

I always end up picking Landscaping as the business type these days, but in the past I have been involved in "Arbitration" (never!).

So what do you pick and does anyone know why insurance companies recognise the occupation but not the business?

I wonder if it might be better to be a landscaper.

Could the trade 'tree surgeon' suggest risk taker.

Not sure but the profession can affect the premium.

As to why they have no business category tree surgery= ?

I have given up with filling out on-line forms for my insurance as they just can't cope with the businesses that I'm involved with. Needing business use for two unrelated businesses seems to make it even more difficult.

This time round I managed to find a proper broker who I can actually talk to and explain what I do.

To my surprise my insurer had 'arboriculturist' listed in the occupations last time I renewed.

I normally end up picking Forestry or Environmental Services as the corresponding profession.

Good call. Like the sound of that, think I might look for that option from now on. :thumbup1:

Fair enough. But do you find you end up paying a higher price for policies direct through your broker than you would via an online search engine?
