Part of my job involves growing fruit and vegetables for the main house. Going to be experimenting this year with chilli seeds from India, as well as replanting a Victorian orchard with heritage varieties. :001_smile:

Very interesting,good luck with that:thumbup1:

I've had two allotments in my time but ran out of time to manage them. Would have enjoyed it a lot more if I'd had the time to do things properly instead of always playing catch up. I used to run a strict three year rotation and tried to avoid any chemicals (without knowing what residues were in the manure). I even tried a bit of companion planting to exercise pest control - onions among the carrots, that sort of thing.

We'll move house one more time, then there'll be a veggie patch at home instead of 15 minutes walk away.

Tony, a bit of planning will go a long way, but I'm sure you're organised enough for that anyway. Best of luck with it.

Jon

thats a shame about the time thing, as for me planning, I am a very green fingered soul, used to feed half the close I used to live in off a plot 1/10th what ive got here:thumbup:

I have great intentions, then its the watering. I spent last summer making compost and thoughly enjoyed that. Have set up a couple of raised beds as well, Got asparagus, strawberries in a barrel, lots of experimenting, also intend to sand filter bath water for some crops as we don't get a lot of rain (except last year)

Got a kiwi fruit, Tayberries Rhubarb, Aronia, honeyberry.

Have got spinach in now and japanese overwintering onions Sensyu. Garlic is out and growing.

And yes Tony I want to do some fungi logs.

I recommend charles dowdings book as well. Read it a couple of months back.

Hoping to make compost tea as well (the dream list is getting big)

I liked watching Geoff Hamilton as a kid when organic was poo pood. He made sense.

Also have some bocking 14 comfrey plants.

Favourite tomato to grow is sweet million F1 a cherry type.

Spring is almost here dudes and we are in good company, If Mr Bullman shaped himself last year, Mrs B should have raised beds.

Sniffing the humus already dudes.

Had a feed of turnip tops from the allotment yesterday with the roast :thumbup1:

I had a raised border about 3m x 1.5 at the old house and grew enough salad to keep 2 lunch boxes stacked for the whole summer, toms in hanging baskets and radish in bucket :thumbup1:

We should do a poll, Does your pee stink unreal after eating asparagus, Yes or No.

Apparentley it's a genetic thing you have either got it or you aint. It still startles me the first time I have it each season.
