Can someone explain to me how a guide bar can be "Good" or "Better" than another.

Surely if the chain runs round it's fit for purpose. On the very rare occasion one of my guide bars lets go I just go to the shop and get another, usually Oregon I think.

What I'm asking is how does this improvement manifest itself?

Not looking to argue (For a change!) Just curious.

There's nothing really specific that I can put my finger on as to why I prefer Oregon to Husky bars, but....... I think the shape at the nose tip is slightly different, Husky pointier, Oregon more rounded. Maybe Oregon are a bit heavier, they seem to feel sturdier. Maybe I'm wrong on both counts and it's just a, perhaps irrational, personal preference.

As a back yard cutter I can't see me ever wearing a bar out, I use it and turn it when I think to do it. The only way I could see one bar being better than another would be in the steel quality and tolerances area. As long as it oils and spins and keeps the chain in line it is fine for what I do. (Sugihara bars do look trick though :D)

A 16" .325 .058 (1.5mm) original Husky bar (not rebranded ProLite) and Oregon 21LPX/H21 chain is perfect on the 346xp and 2153, so it likely will be on the 550xp/2253 as well. 21LP is a little faster and smoother than 25RS/RSC.

If the wood is "dirty", I would consider 25RM/RMC chain.
