Anyone used an MTD top handle saw?

I'm looking for a small light weight saw mainly for occasional ladder work. I mainly use Stihl but came across a very small very light MTD saw for £110. Are they any good or should I hold out for a Stihl?

Sorry I know nothing about the MTD top handle, so can't advise.

 

But, please make sure if your going to be using a chainsaw from a ladder, that you are safely tied to the tree before you start cutting. You Tube and the like are full of clips of people "cutting" from ladders before the limb or stem falls to ground taking out the ladders and wiping out the person using them!

Was in dealers yesterday and the MTD was by the till(like sweets in the shop). I'm looking for the smallest lightest saw and this was small. I prefer rear handled but this one had a small bar possibly 6-8 inch.

I would hold out for a stihl or husky personally and would suggest going for a rear handle as apprised to a top handle and be very careful using a chainsaw from a ladder, ladders are for access only really. How much work do intend to do with it?

A couple of silky saws could be got for that kind of money, and would probably cut faster and cleaner. The last bar and chain i got for my topper cost about £50, so it makes you wonder what the powerhead is worth?

 

Less PPE needed for a silky too.

Note what you all say. I have a Silky Zubat and its brilliant, will look at the Silky pole pruner as a safer option.

we have a silky pole pruner and its hard work for anything other than real small branches.

you could always use an old harness and lanyard to make the ladder a bit safer.

a petrol pole saw is about the best for garden stuff thats to small to climb properly.

not used an mtd tophandle but i imagine the chain speed to be a bit slow, probably fine for occasional light prunning.
