Hello

We have a great 25t splitter powered by a Honda 6hp engine, splits anything but slow on the cycle time, as such I've been looking at getting a 15hp+ powerpack to speed up the operation.

Has anyone tried these powerpacks on splitters before and if so what was the results? There are a few jcb breaker ones on eBay though flow and pressure of current pump seems to be a detail that's not listed.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

D

i,ve been wondering the some thing.

the guy who does some of my repairs builds powerpacks, mostly for marine use.

i recently asked him for a quote for one to run my 15ton when my tractor is away.

he quoted 700euro for petrol or 1k for diesel. i am taking one on trial next chance i get, will

post how it runs

Before you up the flow rate make sure the pipework is man enough for the flow.

If it won’t you will get overheating in the oil which is most undesirable.

+1 and the spool block will be the bottleneck. You get more wear and tear as well as oil deterioration once the temperature gets above 40c (blood-heat).

Ok thanks for feedback, much appreciated. I'd need to adapt the hoses to connect in the powerpack so would use same ones from our cranes. Not sure what flow the spool can take but if heat issues would upgrade that also.

Are the fittings on the powerpacks for bolting on pumps pretty standard? Most pumps for this size splitter seem fairly standard fittings

Thank again

most fittings standard and not too expensive. not worth swopping off other machines imo, saving on fittings would be more than offset by time/oil loss etc each time you swop over

Oh I've no intention of swapping bits from other machines back and forth, aim is to make operation more efficient! What I meant is will use reel of crane hose to make up hoses for splitter, these should be able to handle increased flow no problem.

I have a 60l per min pack running 12hp Loncin 390cc - Honda clone - home built with stuff bought from flowfit.

Do a quick search on my threads, I have listed the full spec and cost.

Thanks Windfall. I had a look, interesting project. Had a look at flowfit also and think I'd go for the 13hp engine with 60lpm two stage pump.

Can your 12hp engine run the 60lpm and still have plenty of splitting power?

Thanks again
