Hi all.

Just looking for bit of help with ID please. Found this on a beech, about 12 foot up on the main stem. No obvious sign of injury where the fungi was but it had a pretty big cavity at the base and a decent amount of kretzschmaria deusta around the base too.

My fungi skills are pretty limited, but is it oyster fungus? I couldn't find any alternatives with the gills so prominent in my book. Unsure as I found it mid April, but according to said book, oyster fungus autumn/winter fruiting and non persistent?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
