Yes I'll bow down to the fungi master - I'd never heard of Ischnoderma, but having looked it up it sounds a more likely candidate than Phaeolus.

Got to fell this dead Fraxinus at the end of the week........i thinkg this is a ganoderma, but i am not sure if so or which, even after trawling through this thread!!

It goes 3/4 the way round the tree, which was living a year ago, and is totally dead now.
