Doh,

Sciadopytyis posted a picture of some rather nice brackets several metres up on a Beech stem, I only said G pfeifferi because of the laquered appearance, the host and location of the fruiting body, the underside colour has thrown me a bit though, any ideas Monkeyd.

Don't know if i've posted in the right place but what is this and what causes it

 

it looks like the bark has been peeled away, and the tree is bleeding sap, but i don't know and I'm sure monkeyd will help you out :001_smile:

It would appear you have a Bacterial Canker as Big Joe alludes to.

 

Pseudomonas mors prunorum

 

Have seen reference to using Copper as a treatment, but would advise against using during warm/wet spring & also in the Autumn.

So you should be ok from now.

 

Is the canopy wilting Ian?
