So how can you both (although possibly quite correct) be so sure with out the caveat of the need for microscopic confirmation ?

 

I only dare to be this "sure" as long there is nothing but a stump, which is not at risk of falling involved.

there's plenty mycorrhizas around here, and a lot of them are in graveyards:biggrin:

 

seen a few brackets out and about but they be the annual ones, and lots of rhizomorphs (does that count:blush:)
