Good morning all,

I am on the last stretch of a land based engineering course so that i have a certificate to say i can do what i already can do although i have learnt a few quite interesting things along the way. I have undertaken the course as my agri fencing business had/has slowed down considerably and as i have maintained and repaired my won kit (tractors, digger, chainsaws, quad truck etc) for some time and being as when i first left school i trained and achieved an NQV in motor vehicle repairs thought i had best update my training just in case the worst happens and i have to return to full time employment.

My question to you guys and girls is do you use mechanics engineers fitters or whatever you want to call them to service maintain and repair your equipment? how do you use them? Emergencies only all the time? Onsite in you workshop there workshop.

This is part of my business management module at college also will help me see where to go after i have finished.

Hoping for some useful input

cheers guy

Tom

I trained as a car mechanic 25 years ago so I'm pretty handy with my machines, sometimes its more cost and time effective to get someone in.

Time V money, whatever is more cost effective at the time and how knowledgeable the individual is. We have customers who do everything themselves, some who do minor repairs & interim services & some where we do everything.

Normally something comes my way just before it hits the skip... If they can't fix it themselves that's when it ends up on my bench or if they can't be bothered to look at it.

Prefere to repair when ever possible, otherwise and old friend of mine will carry out mechanical repairs for me when I'm pushed.
