I like to do everything by the book then you know where you stand but don't want to argue with new boss who's done it his way or the highway for donkeys..

All wear trousers, helmet, no gloves and kit isn't lolered.

Yes, I've heard of stories where HSE have gone onto sites and asked to see the Risk Assessments and Method Statements... and as they didn't have it they got told to stop working and pack up.

 

I know there a pain to do but for 5 minutes out of the day its worth it!!

I'm looking for some advice please.

 

I worked previously contracting for SSE powerlines work, where you have to do risk assessments, ppe, method statements and paperwork for everything. I've moved to a new company where I'm still self employed but basically running the day to day manual work. The owner is a bit old school and reckons I don't need to do risks assessment, loler or full ppe.

What exactly is the law and consequences of not doing them.

You don’t need to record your R.A. if you have small numbers of staff, I can’t remember off hand but it’s around 5, I will look it up for you. Not recording doesn’t meat not doing it and if you or your insurers are defending an accident claim its best to have a record of who said what to whom and when.

 

LOLER compliance is a legal requirement and the HSE will prosecute non compliance.

 

Appropriate PPE is mandatory and the HSE will prosecute breaches.

When you say "legal" who is enforcing/punishing that?

If your self employed is it not just up to you.

 

Don't get me wrong I'm all for it just don't understand it.
