Why is work so hard to find?

Yep and when i started so did everyone else then i had no cutting to do and cutting grass is ok but most of the places here you need to have your own mower and getting the gear around is not easy without transport.

And i did have an old david brown 880 when i was cutting and had to sell it due to the amount needed to keep it running.

Am thinking of getting another tractor if i can't get it with the tree surgeons.

It will help to do some odd jobs.

And as for me doing it too i tried that and could not get anything as to many others doing it.

I will try other odd jobs to make some money but we will see what happens first with the phone calls.

Get out tomorrow and start knocking on doors. See what work people have, garden clearance, painting, fence repairs, whatever.

Then when you've gone right round your village get on your bike and go to the next village and do the same. Print off some flyers and take them with you, put them in local shops, give them to people etc, just do what you need to do in order to get yourself known. Then once you've got some money together you can put it towards driving lessons.

My parents live in Somerset and were recently complianing that they can't find anyone to do the jobs around the place that they just can't manage now that they are in there 80's.

There's always work out there, maybe not loads but it's there.

I had two mowers one small and one a bit bigger but with mower you push them along the road very far and you wear ot the wheels as most of them are plastic and don't tolerate that kind of treatment hence the transport and the price i charged (£3 ph )back then and lost out what makes you think i can get back in now.

The price of fuel is up so doing it for that price i could be out of pocket.

I used to cut grass and was making good money

now where i look i see someone cutting grass some local and some from outside the village.

So, let me get this right

In the recent past you have been doing grass cutting and groundwork, made good money - but used none of this 'good money' to get lessons to learn to drive a car:confused1:.....................at 33 years of age too??

I have to ask, why?

Chagford is on the eastern edge of Dartmoor, very rural and pretty isolated with the nearest small town being Moretonhampstead, which is hardly buzzing and Exeter is over 20 miles away, plus Bovey Tracey is over 15 miles away - in that community I would consider a car absolutely essential to any meaningful life - work or social

I find it hard to believe that a 33 year old in Chagford, who has been previously employed/self employed hasn't bothered to learn to drive a car:confused1:

There's more to this than meets the eye, I reckon

Chainsaw nptc cs30 and cs31, all these tickets are atb landbased tree pruning from hydraulic platform, mobile elevating work platform, manual lifting -safe lifting, brushcutters/trimmers, fastco 12.2 risk assessment (forestry)

tree identification.

I a way you could be right acg128 and its me as i have not got licence it could be the goverment for screwing the country up even more could be a number of things all i ask for is a break and a chance.

Don't think I meant that in a bad way mate you sound down enough as it is.. Driving licence is taken as a big plus for people looking to employ but if you show your good enough then this will no doubt be over looked. I agree to show willingness by offering free days etc but don't get used know a few people in the game that have been big time. Hope you get a break new year and all that.
