There is every place for a prussik as much as hitch climber, street tree re pollards and small tree reductions, prussik and handsaw. Bigger open canopy and lots of upping and downing then gadgets great!

 

Different climbing systems aside... You can only cut as quick as your eyes and brain allow you to, I love a gadget but prussiks have their place always will do.

 

I disagree. There are lots of much better hitches that do exactly the same thing, just better. Such as the one above. Same pull push climbing style, easier decending and branch walking, and no seizing.

Yep i'm with tom. Can't remember the last time I used a prussik, and can't think of a single situation where I would want to use one in preference over something else.

 

Maybe for one of those little shoelace prussks to help advance my prussik....oh wait

I do use a 6 wrap prussik on a spider when rigging occasionally... because it locks.

Why dont you just tie two fisherman's you dont need splices ? it would be much easier and you can tie it anywhere

 

I like my loops set solid, but I never thought of just tying fishermans on the ends, don't they work loose during the day? And if they don't, are they not hard to untie at the end of the day when they have been loaded for 8 hours?

No not at all they do not work loose ( just leave aprox 3 fingers length tail for 8mm and slightly more for ten and up )and you dont need to untie them as you can just clip your krab through the loops every time.

this is what i mean except with ether side of your prussic cord so its like the spliced eyes except a little bulkier

Fair enough, it has hte benefits of spliced eyes and the economy of DIY loops. I have a new stock of the latter but will give the fisherman's a go when next I get some cord in.
