Another splitter thread... Horizontal vertical or multipla...?

Hi all

Looking for a splitter up to about £2k

I've seen a few second hand verticals on a trailer where you split straight n the floor. Seems a bit odd bending over all the time and would be a strain on your back.

Vertical with a table seems good but big rings may struggle to get them on the table as theyre heavy etc.

I thn I fancy a woodline multipla 10t with a spare 4 way head. That way I can do any big rings in half or quarter on the floor then put it n horizontal mode and split down all the smaller stuff at a sensible working height.

Anyone got any feedback n the multipla? How does it compare to the wl bull special etc at the same tonnage?

Has anyone got the pto version? I was thinking of getting e Honda engine version but would the pto version be much quicker say on an old tractor like a major/ dexta?

Look forward to some informed replies....

Also, any good alternatives?

Timber cutter - why isn't the multipla ring on end friendly? I guess you mean if you put a big ring on its side most of it falls off.

Dan, you've been trying to sell your splitter on eBay a while. Why are you getting shot of it if you don't mind me asking? I haven't had any experience of that type of splitter but I have a feeling that working on the floor all the time would be bad on your back.

I bought a tractor last year so decided to run a splitter off of that, I used to put the splitter in my ifor trailer if working for several hours then stand at the side so technically its at waist height.

Correct.

what i like about the woodline multipla is that it can be used inclined not just vertical and horozental

Good Point.

However, like the look of the Riko machines and they have the option of having a honda engine, that i was looking for.

DO NOT BOTHER WITH THE SO CALLED UPGRADE TO A HONDA ENGINE !!! That's in capitals because the standard engine is just as good if not better. I was offered a "free upgrade" to a honda engine or a cash discount. When I asked what the standard engine was and the answer is SUBARU ROBIN I said to the riko guys "well the honda is no upgrade then is it!" "Precisely" they said. This is the abridged article on the matter! You can have the full techincal analysis if you have the time!!!

Kawasaki too, better than honda but not seen on firewood machinery. Kohlers appear on stump grinders and are sweet motors too. Think of a Robin engine as a honda with forged internals and no pushrods :thumbup:

The woodline multipla is out of stock at fuelwood with more expected at end jan 2013. Apparently there will be a price increase post new yr.

I'm seriously interested in the multipla and would have pretty much ordered one but I just thought its worth one quick ask about.

Dan - what have you got running off your tractor?
