Recreation climbing

Hi everyone,

 

I moved into the academic side of the industry this year but am desperate not to let my skills and fitness decline, therefore its seems natural to look into recreation climbing.

 

I have been out to a few local trees but it soon occurs to you that finding and gaining permission to climb the more interesting looking trees is the main issue along with having someone around who can help if you get into a little difficulty.

 

Can anyone share experiences or even trees which where permission may be granted?

 

I assume there are some formal clubs too but I am not sure if this is the case.

I used to just go down the woods and find cool trees to climb, never asked anyone. Is it illegal to climb a tree officer? With big trees in cool places I can't imagine getting permission to climb just for fun. However I used to mention studying lichens for my dissertation and usually that helped. Theory mumbojumbo used to help me bs my way into getting up trees on public and private property. Most people would just ask what I was up to and then move on mate.

there was a programme on our local station re competion climbing. also a chap believe sussex way did days climbing trees with those more experienced swinging from tree to tree. like tera firma. son in laws been on a day going along airial walks using climbing gear. top route 80ft plus

Hi Andy, nice to hear from you again...

 

I found what I was looking for. Have you hear of geocaching? Well I discovered that there is geocaching in trees which is just what I was looking for. I need a goal when climbing trees for some reason and this sounds perfect for me.

 

If anyone doesn't know it envolves leaving a log of your visit in a cache which is placed in a tree and registered with a GPS coordinate for you to find the tree.

 

Sounds fun, nice and high up.

Ive got a couple of months in the midlands but it would be good to get together around bud break if possible, sometime in March?

Can I camp at your farm too? Tent not caravan...

 

To get the thread back on track has anyone done geocaching with tree climbing?
