I really like these chairs. Ill bet a bit of oil would really make them pop. Great job!

Cheers TimberArt,

Yes too true mate, took some the other day whilst still wet with oil. Would be nice to retain that wet look somehow.

The chair in the last picture is beautiful :thumbup1:

Yachting varnish

Yes mate, I may go down that route. I'd really like to try lacquer but I don't have the set up to spray.

I've been following Big J's thread on building a wood kiln too, yet another addition to my fantasy Christmas wish list!

Let's hope the raffle is kind to me this year:biggrin:

That's excellent work.

I would like to know the secret, whenever I try to make something like that all I get is a pile of sawdust and some odd looking firewood. I am prepared to accept the fact that I am more autistic than artistic but if there is a secret please let me in on it.

Thanks treequip,

No secret really. Sometimes helps to work from a maquette/model first, but best advice is to make your cuts cautiously, leaving some spare wood on the piece in the blocking out phase. This should hopefully avoid those "Oh balls, I didn't mean to do that " moments :laugh1: You can then more easily tease out the shapes you want.

Hopefully you'll then have a pile of sawdust, odd looking firewood and a cool looking chair/ sculpture:biggrin:
