Have you tried a knut? I've been using it for the last few months and really like it. I get less sit back compared to a VT and it's more reliable at gripping.

I would forget about proper self tending from any rope, that's the domain of the SJ etc.

2nd that,knut is awesome, if you get high enough it will self tend with 13mm but thats an added bonus when climbing bigger trees :thumbup:

That's a valdotain, not a VT so not the one in the knot guide. The difference is mine is only wraps, no braids.

 

What length of cord are you using for that Dan?
