I use to have great fun on one. Overloading the bucket and sending it out until it tips is good for a laugh, especially when a new driver is in it.

 

Lifted a plasterer up in the air once at full boom. All 12m of it and left him there for a couple of hours. He wasn't scared of heights after that.

 

Using for tree work with a cage works.

 

The newer models have an auto reverse on the fan. No more blowing out with an airline either. Just flick a switch and rev up the engine blows the dust out. Best invention ever.

Too true. May as well try and go all out with the biggest boom you can get and front jacks.

 

They have to be the most versatile tool out there. Fork extensions are also a good idea aswell.

 

If your really good you can use the front jacks to move the forks in and out if they are not auto adjusting aswell

 

problem with the big multi boom loaders with stab legs is the size and weight of them. i have driven most when i worked for agri contracting firm and couldnt think of anything worse for deep mud than a plant spec loader with bugger all horse power and massive weight.

i had a jcb 540 140 on a clearance job and it didnt have enough beans to pull itself up a muddy incline loaded without being in bottom gear and on the steeper stuff i had to reverse up and push myself back on the boom extension.

just more power makes the difference, tho if steve isnt running up and down the road with it a plant spec machine would be cheaper.

i would just stick to a basic 530 70 plant spec so its not overly heavy for its power and wont sink out of sight like the 12- 17 meter versions.

I have been offered a really clean low hr 526 machine 1996 but its got manual control on the 4 w steering is this good or bad. I think later ones were electronic.

the 526 was manual control even up to 2008 not sure on the post 2008 model ! 526 very handy size machine 2.6 tonne lift 5 or six meter boom ?

 

easy to work on and handle mud well!

Thanks for all the feed back its all sunk in and will be used to make the decision just need to get in front of the work so I can go and have a look.
