Hitch Hiker thread.

Now you've had a couple of goes and had time to let it all sink in, are you starting to think its on par with the wrench? I do like the idea of not having anything above the hitch, and the ease of swapping between DRT and SRT! Saying that though, I've just ordered the wrench haha!

Cool! I was real tempted but having not ever had a go at SRT I thought I'd go for the more widely used. One thing that crossed my mind about the HH is everyone says even just making a mm difference in your hitch, makes a massive difference to the way it performs, and it takes a bit of tuning to get it right. If that's the case and you're working on ten trees in a day, wouldn't that be a pain if you weren't using a base anchor so had to take it off each tree?

Last time I used one I remember tying setting and dressing the hitch I went up and never had to play with it once, I think it's the same as any hitch really if your taking it of and putting back on all the time, you will get the odd time you have to fiddle with it to get it just right. When you reckon you'll be back in woodhall mate?

That sounds good then! I might try and pop back this weekend if I've not got any work. Would you be about? I'll pop on to the RW thread now and stick a picture up of what I've made.....

Well done that man! You won't regret it. You just need a RopeKnight now:thumbup1:

The last few weeks I've been using the 6mm hitch cord that High Scale mentioned a few pages back. I found it to be very responsive at grabbing and very easy to ascend with.

Descending, it has a smooth and loose feel but is still very positive when I let go. It's not 'sporty' in that "Oh Lordy, I hope this catches me" kinda way. I like it. I've used the same knot as I did with the Beeline but with one extra wrap.

I just picked up some 10mm Armor Pruss but it won't fit into the dog bone so I'll have to change it.

Anyone else trying different hitch cords?

Ha! I found that out the same way. Try some 8mm Armor-Prus, it slides through the Dogbone nicely, lasts for a good long time and has very good response. It is my favorite by quite a bit.

DMc, if it works so well with the HH, why is 10mm Beeline supplied?

Two reasons. I think when Paul first tried it he was not convinced it was better than Bee-line. I'm guessing here, but probably second is cost. Bee-line works very well and can be purchased in bulk for a reasonable cost. Small changes in production cost help in keeping the overall product cost down for the consumer.

Most climbers will be perfectly happy with the Bee-line. But because hitch feel is subjective and quite personal, it should be understood that the "best" hitch for one person might not be for the next.
