3 things bother me...

 

getting your fingers trapped

 

Might happen, hasn't happened to me, I think you would have to try to make it happen

 

clothing getting caught

 

I think it happens less than with the prussiks

 

freezing up of the device due to sap, dirt or other.

 

Thats the thing about shiney metal it cleans up to shiney

 

they all look shiny on the vidz, love to see one after a week kicking about in the wet and dirt taking down a few Scots and some sycamores covered in lichen filling up the mechanism.

 

I have done full days of Jack pine removals and know the experience with rope resined up with rope resined up is worse than with Sj resined up on rope resined up. See what I mean?

more control with a spiderjack over a lockjack... the zigzag looks good

 

Thats a misconception is my eyes. You can be ultra precise with a LJ you just have to really get a feel for the device.

Depends what your doing in descent I disagree Id say a sj is smoother all day long but limb walking is a different story they can both be as good as each other. Coming from a user of both.

I am doing some testing on 8mm/10mm prussics of different lengths and knots, to see if the wet binding can be sorted.

i've had all the toys, want to stick to rope so its always there and not an issue with mechanical failure.

 

I think that one day the right knot/s and the correct matching of prussic diameter and type to line is going to be the answer.
