as with all the arguements i have with my missus i will gracefully agree that you are all right and i am wrong. but i felt strongly enough to put the point across i know it will be offensive to the masses but it goes on! and i know i won't be liked for saying it!

I can see where you are coming from, jamesw, and in this economic climate it must be very tempting to do homers without insurance. I mean, it seems like you can never make any money if you stick to the rules. I've been tempted when things are tight to drop insurance premiums, but as has been said I dont think its worth the risk. Sooner or later you will b pricing a job against your boss, probably win the job. Imagine then if you got laid off cos he's losing jobs to people doing them on the cheap, and not necessarily you.

If you want to do jobs on the side, do it the right way, do a good job, and compete on a level playing field, and you never know you may actually make decent money.

the way i see it, if you plan your work properly and stick to your risk assessment/method statement, have banksmen if you need them etc etc. then you shouldn't cause too much damage anyway. and if you do, are you gonna claim on your insurance anyway? a few years ago, i wouldn't be buying it, BUT it has got far cheaper nowadays, so you might as well get it.

personally i have insurance from when i had a business i have just kept it on as well all my kit, because i work as much as i can for myself. I work directly for a LA. South Wales at least this is comon practice and people actually aproach you to do "hobbles" "homers" knowing you have no insurance but can see you can do the job. All i want to do is not cause a massive arguement but just to be honest that in our industry mainly when you talk about big companies utility and LA (IMO) that pay basic rates of around £15000 PA ( which is a joke:scared1:) then people are going to work on the side and they are going to do it without insurance. And there are customers out there who are happy to employ people on these terms. i am not saying its right or wrong just it happens.

as forest gump says thats all i am going to say about that right now:001_smile:
