Poorly Oaks

I'm afraid I have no diagnosis to add, but I await the outcome with bated breath...

It occurs to me, though, that if it is only affecting the oak which are fairly spread out and is skipping other species, it must have come on site in the planting soil/rootball/containers, no? If so and if it is, it might not be sending out identifiable rhizomorphs yet. If it is and is confirmed as Armillaria, maybe the oaks will have to be taken out, roots and all, asap to avoid spreading the infection. Tisk, I am speculating prematurely.[/QU

It does sound a little worrying, but it's because they are coming down this way anyway they thought it would be a good idea to come & have a look. Hopefully it isn't too serious. The phone call was totally unexpected & I am looking forward to spending the day with them learning.

looking at the amount of trees affected - if its honey fungus the ground will be loaded with rhizomorphs and some with mycelium around the base of the trees - It should be easy to find - if none is present then im for phytophthora

I would tend agree with that, I do have a tendancy to suspect honey and work from there in these sorts of situations and occasionally I am caught out probably because I really dont want to hear those horrible words, Phytopthora.

Its getting depressing the state of tree health these days, so many negative impacts about for trees now.
