Have you found canoehead's thread on the house he's building in Portugal yet?

Thanks Alec, i should have got some photos after the water stains were sanded off, i'll see if i have any.

 

I have not seen canoeheads thread, i'll have a look for it now

Sorry to question something farmerjohn but in the top picture it looks like you have cut the beautiful dovetails right through the main beams. Please tell me I am mistaken as this would massively reduce the strength of the finished A frames.

 

ok, "you are mistaken", the dovetails are not cutright through the main beam, both dovetails at each end of the tiebeam and the crossing of the principle rafters at the top are all half lapped and pegged through to hold them together. specifically for the reason you mentioned.
