Buying a lathe

Hi Adam

Not exactly a recommend more a review.

I bought this for my father in-law 3-4 years ago Fox F46 719 Professional Wood Lathe - 14" (240 Volt Only) » Product

It is a lot of lathe for the money with a big heavy cast stand. The variable speed gearbox is a bit noisy but works OK. The biggest problem with it is the tool rest that has an articulated arm which leaves the rest itself a long way from it's connection to the cast bed so you can get some vibration when working. This can be made to work better with some improvisation but it is defiantly a weak point of this machine this was a few years back so they may have fixed this problem. I wish I had looked more closely at the smaller Axminster machines but no machine is perfect so I may have made the same choice if doing this now.

Hope this helps
