DIY chainsaw repair

If you have access to an air compressor it makes cleaning alot easier and quicker.(Goggles too)!!

I'm just a humble gardener and i've replaced 2 cylinders and pistons.(Not on the same machines I may add). I found keeping all screws and bits and bobs in a long tray from left to right as they come off helps putting it back together.

The piston circlips are a pain. I found the new ones were not as good as the originals so used them.

A wee tube of gasket sealant is what I smear to the bottom of the cylinder making sure none gets inside the cylinder.

I used 2 stroke oil on a swab ( bit like a cottonbud) to lightly coat piston, cylinder, bearings.

Stick some Floyd on and take it easy.

Satisfaction is definitely guaranteed.:listen:

thanks to all for your kind responses and slightly overwhelming advice. Sounds like I need a tidier workbench, some more tools and to dust off the old Pink Floyd CD. Not to mention the patience of a saint!

I must admit from stripping the saw down and seeing the damaged piston the job looked easy. As my father in law says experience can be expensive so its best to use other peoples!

Hopefully I won't need to post again but who knows. I am based in South Devon so if anyone knows a decent cash worthy person who can help with repairs as my Husky long reach hedge trimmer has also lost all compression today. Just waiting for the third thing to go Pete Tong tomorrow.

Thanks

Adam
