Generally vehicles that do a job but don't carry a load are o license exempt.

So as long as you don't load with with saws or anything not directly connected with the mewp you shouldn't need an o license.

I believe, well I've always understood that tools immediately connected with the use of the Mewp can be transported on the Mewp, such as saws, but you cannot tow a chipper with the Mewp for example on the exemption? Im not 100%, but I know large utilities contractors do this, and we used to. Of course that doesn't make it right.

Is there any exemptions from a o license with a 7.5 ton mewp ?

it's ok to run it on red diesel but I wondered if it would need a o license ?

Hi there!

If the log book the vehicle is registered as HGV/Tower crane, then no 'O' licence is required. Tacho must be calabrated and used. White derv. Mot exempt. HGV licence is required, trailer must be connected with mewp operation... not chip/ifor etc!

If it registered as HGV goods then an 'O' licence will be required.

you could also register it for tacho exempt if it only gets used in same area doing same job etc and as its classed as a fixed load i,e mewp and not for any other use it may be mot exempt but not sure about o licence as its being used for hire reward and white diesel for road use

Ummm I dont even think you ca nrun on red any more.

As others have said it depends on the Tax class you are paying. for MEWPS they used to come up special vehicle or occasionally tower crane.

The old specal perpose was even exampt MOT as wel as O and could run red.

A couple of years ago there was an greement between govenment depatment regarding the use of red hers some (limited) help

As for O licence, we have one on our new machine and a tacho in it, it is taxed as a lorry, and thus only some of us can drive it (>3.5t)

My advice would be cheak with vosa, and hmrc as the last thing you whant is to get stung with finmes and back payments ( if you get done for red not whiteDERV they can estimate lost revine and chare plus interest.......)

hpe it helps

cheers
