The link below gives a uk distribution map of confirmed sites.

Forestry Commission - Pests and diseases - Ash dieback (Chalara fraxinea)

I'd like to get a first hand look at the symptoms and a feel for the type of woodland where these outbreaks currently are.

Does any one know the names/locations of the woods on the map around the Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds areas?

Appreciate any heads up either here or by pm :thumbup1:

Interestingly I know two sites that had the young trees cleared off because they were supposedly infected and neither are on that map.

I suspect this will go up fairly quickly now in number of sites as the results of the rapid assessment survey thats been going on over the last week should have all been submitted last night, where by four ash containing woodlands will have been surveyed in every 10km square of England, which has been a logistical nightmare.

In terms of type of woodland we were also asked to check roadside and hedgerow trees as there is no reason that these are less likily to get Chalara than woodland trees, infact given the movement of vehicles and people along the road network these could be the ones that show the first symptoms.

If you want a look I would contact your local FC Field Manager for East Anglia as they would be in the best position to help you out, Im not sure who that is down there though sorry, remember two sets of clothes/disposable spray suit and some propeller if you did go to an infected site for biosecurity reasons

London Tree Officers were also requested to get involved in the rapid survey but with very little notice (like everyone else) I was not involved as I've been off work for a couple of weeks. Would be interesting to find out how many of the LTOA got the chance to get involved.

Very good shout on the biosecurity issue.

Ever mindful of this, we've been going to confierous woods up here with the pooch for that very reason.

Thanks for the idea on the regional FC Field Manager :thumbup1:

Wonder if they are nursery s or woodlands. Doesn't specify if they are or not.

The distribution map notes that as of yesterday, 14 of the 82 sites are nurseries, but you're right the map doesn't show which of the ploted sites are nurseries.

Guess that's for commercial reasons.
