G. resinacium or G. lucidium

Found by a contractor on a roadside Oak.

 

Pretty isn't it?? Almost perfect symmetrical form.

 

Any thoughts on species? Its not attached to the tree by the stipe and has a rudimentary stalk.

I am pretty sure its resinacium as lucidium has a stipe although would need to check notes. Little late for resinacium though, isn't it annual?

 

Look at our FdSc notes. You did it same time as me I reconise the name.

Looks like lucidum to me Tony.

 

The first 4 below are of a lucidum I saw a couple of months ago.

The last picture is I believe to be resinaceum.

Although the colour and rim appear different, when you compare Tonys' shot to my ones,

Tonys' does appear to have the bulge of a stipe at the back of the bracket.

I would say lucidium davids last picture is what i call resinacium.

G. lucidium for me due to the presence of a stipe, a lot bigger than I've seen before though...

Yep. Bit rushed though so I may take the time to go back.

 

Ran my hand down the back to see if it fruited from the buttress but it had a short thick vertical stalk off from the short stipe at the top of the pic.

 

Contractor said it was very glossy and a brighter red last week.

 

I'm not sure a stalk is a definite ID feature though...

I'm sure if it wasn't in a ditch by the side of busy road someone would have ripped it out of the ground 'cos its so pretty!
