First Aid/Emergency Procedures

I agree vdub, in that situation there is not much you can do, apart from give first aid and plenty of reassurance.

As a sub-contractor, i've worked for companies that have sent me out with a spec sheet written on a post-it note, with no RA done before the job, or on the site.

So I always made sure I had a well stocked first aid kit in my bag, as well as a small one in my helmet. i would always get detailed directions to the site i was at from the client/boss and write this down on a piece of paper and leave it in the cab usually on the drivers seat near my phone. Any problems i'd get the groundie to go to the cab and call for an ambulance, or even a member of public.

Thankfully i've never been involved in a serrious accident at work.

Thanks for the replies folks. I asked for several reasons but one being I was on site when a serious non arb related accident happened a few years ago it was a County Council job. A land rover rolled on a track accessing a tricky site well off the beaten track.

Th gang had no emergency plan this was a remote part of the country we ended up using my mobile the only one with a signal to get help. I had to read the grid ref off an OS map while trying to give fiirst aid.

Since that day I've made it my business to have my own emergency plan so that I know I get help, even though now I'm long gone from the above scenario/organisation. In all honesty in every job since I've had good EP's from employers. I do EP's for my own business and i have a big first aid kit that apart from the normal stuff has survival bags and foil blankets in to keep the casualty as warm and dry as possible.

I need to do the refresher next feb for my 4 day ticket but I also want to update the serious injuries course because its many years since I did it.

Vdub from what you've said mate I doubt there was much else you could do.
