Simple

Hard work and the will to succeed, everything else will follow in good time

plus 40/50k. it will be slow at first, doubt...frustration...under-cut How? stick to your guns. work out your daily costs and charge accordingly.

Do a good Job and clean up. Suggest other work the customer needs doing.

its hard to start a business in a recession.

best of luck.

If you currently eork now look around at what kit u use, also when starting out dont be fussy with the work. If it just taking an apple out and roatervating some beds do it it pays the bills. Start out small and cheap so ur ot goings are small and build it up from there

Second hand van, three saws(one is always being fixed), blower, climbing kit, rescue kit, hedge cutters, pick, mattock, fork shovel, wheel barrow, axe. Somewhere to keep it all safe and store waste to be processed into compost, logs etc (waste is work on the quiet days). insurance. Some good friends. More energy than you think you would ever had. Honest, decent, approachable manner. Quals &certs. Be willing to learn, you'll never know it all!

Our business was started with an escort eclipse, a hand me down climbing harness and one saw that had seen better days. We just worked hard, did a good job and cleaned up after ourselves. And I thank every customer that gave us the benefit of he doubt. Never ever turn down work, that bit of digging might lead to a tpo'd veteranisation that impresses the tree officer ;)

That's great advice Ginja. The basics endure. From the outset you to need to balance the books and remember your primary marketing tool is word of mouth recommendations.

Develop relationships with experienced peers. Lastly, don't forget your online presence. That's increasingly important in the post Yellow Pages climate.

All of the above ie hard work, qaulity, and determination as its a long road. Most who start a business give up or remain frustrated due to low pay or no work.

My advice is to advertise locally in small local magazines, shop windows and plenty of talking to friends to get your name about.

To be some what success full you need to maintain a business approach at all times and remember to turn a profit you need to maximise you turnover whilst controlling you costs, the equipment part will develop as your business grows.

Good luck hope it goes well.
