Personally I feel it's often safer to use a top handled saw on the ground, it's the saw we as climbers are probably most familiar with, smaller and more maneuverable, and we all fully know the risks of chainsaw use, and I can't see how we are any more likely to have any accidents, if we are trained/competent. I'm no less careful with a top handled saw on the ground, probably more so, because of the perceived extra risk that's been drummed into us.

Now that is a very interesting read...Well worth taking the time to go through it. I personaly don,t use a climbing saw on the ground it,s not intended for that...Good post Tuttle:thumbup1:

 

I use mine because its light, handy, reliable and easy to start.

 

Plus mines a makita, which has the on/off switch positioned so you shut off the engine while both hands are on the saw.

 

Its not an everyday thing, just when its warranted.
