I have a young lad who is keen to get climbing. I'm starting him off aerial rescue next month. What would be the best rope/climbing aid combo to set him up with considering all the new techniques around. Not just for rescue but to take forward to climbing full time.

Just a shopping list of must haves would be good.

Then additional wish/ dream list for.

I've got most basic stuff but not sure on rope make/diameter to go with climbing aids and which would be the best aid/technique for him to get into. He's being taught by an old boy who may not use best/ newest ideas.

best thing to start him off with IMO is first a comfortable harness 3x krabs

3 prussik loops of like marlow boa

37 meter rope yale xtc something simple

keep it simple maybe add a cambium saver to the list but its not worth all the money on hitchclimbers spider jacks all that when 1 he may not like it and 2 it over complicates things when it comes to aerial rescue.

its what you would do if you were at college and possibly in you Cs38 i dont know what they are like now but mine was kept simple

Cheers

Thats good advice. I feel maybe I'm trying to get him to run before he can walk:001_smile: We've got all that stuff but I keep reading about these new techniques and wondered whether there was a shortcut. No, it's me. I'm too ambitious for him. Excited too as I know he's going to love climbing.

Lol gd luck bud with it, but as the lads have said id Keep It Simple (Stupid) being the saying. I was glad to have Kept it to just 1 12mm climbing rope and a couple of prussics to complete the 38 as ur mind can go all over the place when ur wanting to get te guy down safely. Once hes mastered it see if theres other climbers that wouldnt mind showing u other climbing tec with there kit get ur lad to try and see how he gets on. Im still on prussic and vt at the min lol
