Basically you need to find someone who understands timber mensuration ( measuring volume of trees) and get an A4 tariff done on the standing trees. You're effectively then getting a timber industry standard method of assessing the volume of the trees standing and thus the potential value. Someone who knows what they're doing will then be able to do a product breakout and then give you a valuation based on current prices/ market trends.

It's pretty easy to do 60 big trees like that even with an accurate sampling fraction.

Then you have an idea what they're worth and whatyouvegot and you can set yourself a reserve price. If you don't get the price you need then you don't need to cut them.

You can then offer them onto the market through a sale event such as the Rennies westonbirt auction at the end of November where they will also take quality conifer such as big DF. It might be that the big mills and companies like Euroforest or tilhill don't want them as they're all about volume ( generally) but some of the smaller niche mills might be looking for some big sawlogs for their orders.

There will be some smaller timber buyers who do a lot of niche marketing who would be able to buy standing, get them felled and pay you a standing pricebasedon the a4 volume or felled volume. You decide.

The key Is getting the volume measure done standing and thus knowing what you've got.

Obviously you'll also need a felling licence or approval under a suitable FC grant scheme/ mgt plan before you fell them.

Pm me if you need any more info.

Excellent post.

As a small niche buyer, I can confirm that larger diameter logs are certainly more sought after.
