I guess they could scrap the minimum wage and ban unions, creating a lower wage economy that could better compete with less developed countries.

Maybe not quite as severe as 'ban unions' but certainly along the above lines....

Many manufacturers are moving production back to the UK now as they have more control on whats going on and our workers are realising they have to get involved to make the company successful not just sit back and take the benefits.

The 70's was the roots of our decline but as with everything, it's cyclical.

The Government should take a large slice of the blame pie ! How does anyone expect the British economy to recover when we have next to nothing to recover it with . Britain managed to recover from the previous recession by its manufacturing strengths because Britain still had a half decent and wide array of manufacturing industry , now have a look at where the bulk of previously British manufactured goods come from and then have a look at who is in the greatest financial pain !!

The country has allowed several generations to sit at home and refuse to work because their benefits leave them better off ! where has the nations working backbone gone ? will we see the time in which men were proud to go to work to provide or their family no matter what the job was ? Not until the government revues its benefit system and stops trying to alter an archaic system and actually produce a new system and set of standards for obtaining benefits .
