Need a chassis

Its a cracking truck now. It barely smokes at all, drives smooth with only a little clunk when taking up drive. There is no after bump wallow from the suspension and the truck doesn't roll like mad like it used to. The only good part of the old chassis was the 3 year old rear crossmember which we will probably selling on.

Matt, that sure looks well now. Trouble free motoring for a good while now.

 

One thing I'd consider though, is blacking the chassis(at least where its visible). It is an insurance statistic that re chassied landies get stolen more.

 

Just worth thinking of.

 

 

One wee question though, do you know if the garage managed to get the loom inside the chassis leg? Just curious as they're a pig.

It goes down the side in a piece of rubber pipe that is attached to the chassis with cable ties. Had the AA out this evening as the bugger wouldn't crank. Turns out the immobiliser/ignition system was dead so can bypass that via a fly wire to the alternator.

I found that spray on stone chip worked well over the galv for the rar crossmember- it sort of fades after a bit so doesn't look shiny new for long. Think a shiny black one on an lder truck attracts the wrong attnetion too.

 

Wiring loom wise, I nearly got angry with mine but managed to feed a lenthg of ordinary garden hosepipe full length and then taped/tied the loom to it before pulling it back through. I'd spent hours messing round with string/rope/wire before trying the hosepipe.

I'm half way through changing my bulkhead and engine, got a outrigger to renew and a couple of patches, but can't decide wether too rechassis it or not, specially as its all being done on the road :(

 

It's really not as much work as you think it will be before you start - if you're having engine out and swapping bulkhead, there's not a huge amount of big bits left.

 

Did mine on the drive with nowt more complex than a pair of high lifts, a pair of bottle jacks, an engine crane once the body was off and a good stack of blocks of wood.
