I'm looking to buy some basic kit for some casual rec climbing. I've got CS38 but don't have any ambitions to work as a climber.

What setup would people recommend? Is a prussic and short strop as taught on the course the most sensible way to go?

I use a hitch climber system for my rec climbing. Carry a couple of loops on my harness for changeovers and a few spare carabs and thats about it. Oh and a sharp knife.

Buy another prussic and use both ends of your climbing line for larger limb walks and ascending, and get a short strop for playing around in the tree as its small and out of your way. getting out to the tips on a big limb can be hard work on a single line/ short strop but getting back in can be way harder :)
