Is there any hope for our Ms 880

Take straight to stihl ..Saw has only done two chains ?? Stihl will be reading this and will be in there interest to sort it out for you as we are all watching now as well .

For a grands worth of saw its pretty poor.

 

A grand for an 880, can you tell me where you buy yours from so I can go there to??? :laugh1:

If the original poster gets nowhere with Stihl or the dealer then I am happy to give an assesment on the saw as to if it is able to get it running again, did a similar one for Blackbriarwoods a year ago - not sure if he is still about but was a very happy bunny at the time:thumbup:

 

I agree with the original comments about not checking the carb as one of the first things to check on a poor running saw - sounds like the second carb was set lean - the airbox has the settings with the limit caps fitted on it and many remove them and set to something like 1/2 turn - first big cut.....pop, the saw seizes!

the bit i dont get is why the repair company would not re set the carb settings and make sure that the carb is in working order ? surely if you given a second hand carb to fit on a saw you check the carb over and set it t the origional settings an go from there ?

 

I would agree with you, but then if they didn't check the carb (or fuel line?) in the first place, so maybe they wouldn't think of this either. Unless you have a long standing relationship with them where they've been successful in repairs in the past, I would be exploring what level of experience their technicians have at this point, and maybe looking around for alternatives.

 

It's very handy to have a good route to repair on your doorstep, but couriering saws is cheap compared to the repair cost, and very cheap compared with fixing them again and again and again.

 

Direct to Stihl may be worthwhile, but again my experience was of a very defensive attitude, trying to find ways to avoid warranty claims, even when none are implied. This was admittedly about 12yrs ago, with a 10yr old 064 which was one of the saws they used to identify the issues with stale fuel in modern unleaded. No implication it was their fault, I just wanted a diagnosis to stop it happening again, and instead got a long statement about how it wasn't under warranty so it wasn't their fault! However, things have moved on since then and as has been said above, it's being discussed on a forum where the free publicity about good service from a satisfied customer may be very worthwhile to them.....

 

FWIW, Spud fixed my 066, and I'm very happy with the results.
