im getting some greedy boards made up for my new van and i was wondering if you think i need to make it completely roofed or not? adding a roof will make it more sturdy but will increase the cost. im getting it make out of metal but i have thought about ply as its alot cheaper but doesnt look very good and wont last as long. what are your thoughts?

I'd go for ally, it looks smart and you don't want ply sides going tatty on a new truck in a few months. As for a roof I suppose it would stop chippings flying out and over the cab. does it have to be a rigid roof. one firm around here has made to measure tarp roofs.

here is a pic of my boards

I have always roofed my chip trucks, it saves loads of cleaning up. I hate it when the chip builds a ramp and then blows over the cab, nice sticky sap laden chip dust ruining my paintwork... no thanks.

And ally is nice, but 2mm folded steel is stronger, cheaper and paints easily.

Hey Matt, everytime I see your truck, I get this irrational urge to get another 130. I know I shouldent, as I used to have 4 of the barsteward things, but i'm strangely compelled....

barsteward things?! I would like another a dedicated tipper. not likely to happen in the near future.

Ally greedy boards won't be cheap the good thing about ours is they are double skinned so if we sling logs in the back the inside can be dented to hell but from the outside it still looks new!

my greedy boards are dead easy to remove and i use a purpose made tarp seems more versatile can load with tractor and throw logs from oner walls straight into truck which not possible with fixed roof

Yeah, I flippin hate landrovers, especially after having 127 crewcabs for line work that were always falling apart. But its like a bug, you always hanker after one, no matter how good the latest jap offering is.

marine ply with a roof probably cheaper than ally and can be painted to match.....make them sturdy enough and it comes in handy for the tops of hedges.

definietly get a roof if you chip every thing ...if your doing a lot of cross cutting and have not yet got a chipper dont as saw fumes cant escape!
