yesterdays job finished early afternoon all the climbing done, went back today for a couple hours to fell the stem and clean up take most of the timber away etc. the stem was 30ft that we felled so the whole tree was 70-80ft had a heavy lean towards the neighbouring properties had already lost 1 of the leader stems in a storm year or 2 back. first proper day out with the new grcs takes abit of getting used to. used it for all sorts the rigging then used it on the felling vid will be on here tomorow, we used the grcs to tension a side pull line to stop it going off course once it snapped off from the hand winch pulling it over. then we used it to lift over big logs to cut them up. best tool ive ever bought really cant praise it up enough so handy and well thought out :thumbup1:

cheers, the grcs is a single bollard with a 2 speed winch inside so you can lift and pretension the lowering line etc really is more than worth the price tag they hold.

I'll be honest with you James, the video was good but there were a lot of times you could see way too much pressure had been created with the GRCS, especially as you were trying to use it to winch the limb clear of the object below once it was about to drop (before you cut it off visible immediately after the hinge break). From past experience of using GRCS's id of put the lowering line much higher up like the log section you too out early on, higher point requires less pressure to achieve movement due to it point of lever, if you get what im saying (3:18 is an example of this and at 3:31 showing the amount of force loaded by the movement of the butt section).

The lift at 5:50 was pretty sweet though.

Just telling you how i see it as i remember a situation when Daryl was young and over tensioned the winch which resulted in the anchor point failing and a Blue ISC block + top screaming past me and into my lines.

On the whole quite good, a few little points that others have picked up on. One point with the communication, it's hard to see on camera where the ground crew are from aloft, and you bombed out a couple of handhelds without warning, but you may have known exactly where everyone was that the camera didnt show. Also, was I mistaken or was the lowering done above the GRCS, I did think I glimpsed the groundie working directly under the lowered load? But I haven't replayed it yet so I can't be sure.

Good feedback so far thanks guys, that is something i was concerned with while we were doing the job cranking to much tension into the system its going to take some getting used to but we got better at it throughout the day i must say. Andy the groundies were fully aware of what my plans were with the freefall sections i could see where they were at all times all the way to the chipper. I did mention after we done the job we could have placed the grcs on the neighbouring willow but wasnt concerned with it where it was the whole tree had such a lean all the stuff was going well away from the groundies.
