When they enter their machines before they can attempt a speed record they have to be signed off by the technicians...Every single one of the British bikes/cars passed and the experts said it was a testament to their expertese in Engineering:thumbup: Hey Teepeet, what ya gonna do with all those earplugs you won?:D

Stab in the dark but the canals through london have stop gates here and there in case theres a breach ie ww2 bombing, the flow of the water would close the gates, maybe the pulley in your pic was used to lower and drop a similar setup???

Interesting....there were some fixings either side where some sort of portcullis/barrier could have slid...and it is a canal...

Thats not a canal ,too narrow, but it could be a canal feeder, is there a resevoir nearby? Hang on your based in london where was this pic taken?

didnt realise I won anything, but I would have found earplugs useful at Bonneville flats :lol:

Interesting regarding the sheave at the bridge - a whole host of uses for something like that in the old management systems they had for water and the canals. All explanations lost in the mists of time no doubt, but then again I have been on the cider tonight
