Hi.

I am relatively new to this forum, but the threads what i have read are very interesting, (arborists are very knowledgeable)

I am currently studying for a foundation degree in arboriculture, starting the 2nd year in september, a part of the course is to produce a disatation on something arb related, this is where i am hoping somebody can help me, i am wanting to go down the pest and disease road, as this is what i am most interested in finding new things about, can anybody help me specify my ideas?

How about the pests and diseases which are now becoming more apparent in the UK due to climate change?

thanks for your idea matt!

the ideas which i came up with are

1) Dutch elm disease what are the stratergy's for re introduction, and have the elms which were first re-planted survived?

2)Phytophera spreading How do companys differ there stratergies when trying to stop the disease spreading...sanitation felling, rhodedendron removal

For the disatation it has to be something which I can investigate, (which will involve asking various experts and proffesionals for there opinions

Best advise I think is to choose a subject as closely related as possible to the area of arb you want to specialize in afterwards.

It will help if you tutor or if you know who might mark your dissertation has an interest in the subject.

Pick something which is easily researchable.

Get it looked at as oftern as possible by different lecturers!

If I was going to do mine again it would be on the Asian Longhorn Beetle. Current !

Good luck :thumbup1:
