Does anyone know why the chain on a stihl pole pruner would keep going tight?

I've seen it happen a few times over the years but never really got to the bottom of why it does it.

I keep cleaning the head out and readjusting it but very quickly it tightens itself up very tight until it nearly stops the engine.

I cant see how the bar is moving to tighten it? and the adjusting screw seems fine?

Also I get problems when it stops oiling the chain and it needs to be stripped down alot, does this happen to you?

regards

Matt

we've had the same issues with ours at work. I dont think they are very good even once it oils they never seem to last very long. Hedge trimmer attachment is much more reliable.

Oh right thanks for the replies. I did have a sneaky suspition that would have something to do with it, but couldnt imagine how it would tighten it.

:001_rolleyes:

No oil means friction, friction means heat and heat means the bar expands.

If i remember rightly there is a brass gause between the oil tank and the feed to the chain, this blocks up with sawdust etc, hence low oil feed to the chain, i,m probably wrong, but worth a look.
