Drilling through a nose sprocket?

Just wondered, what kind of bearing there is in the nose sprocket of a bar?

I've been attempting to make a mill and wondered if it would be possible to drill a single hole through the centre of the nose sprocket of a 36" stihl rollomatic to gain 2" of cut?

I've never taken a nose apart but there must be someone who has?

The rivets in the centre look like they form a circle easily big enough to make a hole for a single bolt?

Thanks, daniel.

the bearing is made up of little rollers

be warned the steel that the guidebar is made from is very hard

and will blunt a new drill bit in seconds

Sorry but that's not true - it's pretty easy drilling a bar with a good quality drill bit.

If you really need those extra 2" I'd be tempted to go for a solid nose bar and additional oiler.... I've not tried drilling through the sprocket but I'd say prob would not work and you'd damage the sprocket... could be wrong though!
