Back in February they brought in some tougher tests inc towbar and electrics, rubber gaiters in good condition on ball joints and catalytic exhaust must be fitted if it says so on the screen.

The check that was introduced was that if the vehicle left the factory with a cat fitted, there must still be a cat fitted, but this check only applies to spark-ignition engines (ie petrol), it does not apply to compression-ignition engines (ie diesel).

There is no legal reason why you should not remove the cat from any diesel vehicle at present, and you cannot fail the MOT for doing so.

Norfolk and Suffolk police have a good system. They payed to have my Cat marked. It is extremely dificult for it to be sold on properly in the area without the dealer notifying the police. Got a window sticker to warn people.
