Husky 242xpg starts then dies?

Hi all, as title. Newly aquired 242xpg. Plug ok etc so stuck some fresh fuel in and it fired on the second pull. Ran for a few seconds then died. Same again twice more so I gave it best for the moment.

Any ideas on the problem before I go for the full stripdown?

Regards

Check the fuel lines, filter and then strip the carb down taking care to look at the internal gauze filter. Worth checking the fuel tank breather and that the H&L screws are one turn out on both.

Cheers Spud, the saw was absolutely filthy so I wouldn't be surprised about a blockage somewhere. All I did was clean the air filter to see if the thing would run at all. The filter was as black as the inside of a cow....

Having not had a 242 before I was just hoping there was a magic fix!

Some cleaning time required methinks.

Thanks

G

Thought sod it put new plug in and away we went. The plug broke down when it got warm, with taking it out cooled a little to show spark. So before strip change plug:thumbup:

If the saw is that filthy, it may be the breather, loosen the fuel cap so the seal is broken with the tank only half full and try to start it, if it goes alot better, the breather is plugged - it is located on the inner part of the handle under the top rear of the crankcase - you need to undo all the rear AV mounts and push the rear handle downwards to get to it.
