I milled some 3 years ago and gave a load to a mate to use in his extension as window sills looks great when polished but still shrunk a bit.

It's a hard one to sell.... but the red heartwood is naturally durable outside and light when dry so cladding and shingles are a good bet.... but you still have to find someone to use them....

Cladding and construction. Most of the Pacific coast of the US is built from Sequoia.

Built from sequoia yes but not sequoiadendron which is Wellingtonia. It was little used in the US for construction.

I seen some wicked super large outside tables made with it, with chainsawed seats,,looked like something out of alice in wonderland!!! i`ll try and find the pics..

My mistake. I assume it was Coast redwood they used instead?

I thought it was that both woods are very durable but the squoiadendron was not really used for construction because the wood was too brittle .....

Yes Sequoia sempervirens was the one they used primarily. Both are really durable but they used to have problems felling Wellingtonia. It shatters so they tried to fell it into ditches full of brash. They felled a lot of them after discovering them in California as it was a bit of a macho thing to do:001_smile:

I think one of the biggest fells took five days of axeing and sawing!
