Loony Hair

Recommended Posts

Finally managed to get to carve something for the first time in months... and after seeing lots at woodfest thought i would try a Luna hare!! I have never sanded a piece before as i only have a cheap belt sander but thought a smooth hare would be right... so on the recommendation from Munksapprentice on "Tools Tips and Techniques" i invested in a Black & Decker Powerfile. WHAT A TOOL ...(the powerfile not Munksapp) thanks a lot for the tip!:thumbup1:

Im pleased I could be of some help. Your next gadget wants to be a 125mm random orbital sander. Also cheap and worth their weight in gold. The powerfile can leave little lines, you then go over with the orbital sander to round everything off. You'd never look back. All you need for both sanders is some 80 grit for bulk work then some 120 grit to finnish off. My final tip for you which will save you time and serious money is use someone on ebay called "johnt1102" on ebay for your sanding disks and pads. He provides absolute quality gear and cheap as chips prices. Press buy it now and there always knocking on your door either the next day or day after. Using genuine costs a fortune, buying cheap costs you time with poor quality sanding and snapping belts. This guy saves me time and money through with his service. Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the kind comments... always much appreciated.

Dervish .... got the powerfile off e-bay £35 + £5 p&p ...(£60 at B&Q !!!) I would highly recommend it ... great for getting into tight spaces but it does bigger contoured areas well when you get used to it .. its pretty feisty!!

Thanks Munksapp for your next tip ... I will certainly think about an orbital next as you have whetted my sanding appetite ... its all about the funds as i'd fancied gettin an 8 or 10 inch carving bar.. we'll see ... thanks again for your help.
