we do work for a housing agency and we usually get a list of jobs and will drive round and look at each tree beforehand and price them individually...hourly rate off the back of an office workers spec must be a nightmare.

That would be the best way. Hourly rate can work, but only really for local jobs. 40 miles is quite a long way to drive back for a bigger saw, rigging gear or something else you need.

I used to charge a flat day rate and just turn up and crack on. They were fairly good at estimating how long jobs took.

nice one mate, but also tell them the ash is dangerous and will cost twice that of the birch. Forget my first post:001_tongue:

Might help if they sent you a pic of the tree by email, at least this way you , can have some idea of whats in store when you turn up on site. Surely this isnt too much to ask of them.

As for the original question, ride the cost this time, flog the logs if poss to redeem some of the money, and be wiser in future. :001_smile:

I was recently asked via e mail to go and "do a tree because it has bees in it"

What I was supposed to "do" I don't know. I told them to get pest control or to just leave the bees alone!
